About Our Spiritual Community

Welcome To Our Web Site

We are very happy that you're visiting our site.  We also encourage you to visit our church and experience the warmth, peace, and love of God that is expressed through the people there. Our Church is dedicated to supporting people in healing and transforming their lives through the study and application of the practical principles of Christianity.  These principles are eternal truths that are inherent in the teachings of Jesus and all great spiritual masters.  In Unity, they have been identified and interpreted by our co-founders, Charles and Myrtle Fillmore, and generations of Unity teachers.  We recognize that our understanding of spiritual Truth is always evolving, and we know that the power of love,  forgiveness, prayer and meditation can create healing, prosperity and healthy relationships in our lives.  See our Unity at a Glance page for more information about our beliefs.

No matter where you are on your spiritual journey, Unity is a safe place.  You will not be judged based on your past behavior, but honored for the steps that have brought you to the threshold of your next spiritual awakening.  You are welcome to participate in our services as you choose and to give in love as you are led to do so.  No one will call upon you, or infringe upon your privacy.

You are a child of the Universe, a creation and expression of the One Creative Intelligence that forms and sustains all there is.  Your birthright is joy, peace, health, prosperity and abundant love.  We salute the beauty, goodness and spiritual power in you!

Our Sunday Service
Our Sunday Service is held at 10:00 a.m. at our church, located at 147 Walton Ave., Hyannis, MA. Visitors are always welcome!  See our   Sunday Service page, or our Contacts/Directions page if you need some help finding us.

What About Sunday School?
Our Sunday School provides age-appropriate spiritual education, social interaction, and opportunities for community service.  Children are supervised continuously by trained volunteer teachers and assistants from the congregation.  We encourage children to attend Sunday School held in our new basement facility during the service and invite them join the congregation for the closing.  However, children are also welcome in the main sanctuary, provided they do not disturb the other members of the congregation.

Our Bookstore
Our Bookstore is open before and after the Sunday service.  A variety of books, including best sellers, Unity publications and pamphlets,  as well as tapes and CDs may be purchased.  The Daily Word , Unity Magazine, our newsletter and flyers on church and community activities are also available.  If you are interested in ordering a specific book please see the Book Store Volunteer.   Audio CDs of each Sunday service may be ordered at the bookstore.

Is There A Prayer Ministry?
There are individual prayer request forms available inside the Sunday bulletin and on the information table.  You may place your completed form in the Prayer Request Box which is available each Sunday.  Our Minister is the only one who reads your prayer requests, so please know that each request is confidential. You may also make an on-line prayer request  The requests are held in prayer by the minister for one week and then forwarded to Silent Unity, Unity's world-wide prayer ministry, where they are held in prayer for an additional thirty days.  You may also mail your prayer requests directly to Silent Unity, Unity Village, MO 64065, or you may call them at (816) 969-2000.  If you have an urgent need and no means of paying for the call, dial the toll free number, (800) 669-7729.  You may also e-mail Silent Unity from our links page.

Classes
Unity is described by its co-founder Charles Fillmore as the next great evolutionary step in the educational movement inaugurated by Jesus Christ, and spiritual education is at the core of our ministry.  Class schedules posted on the Events page, are published in the Sunday bulletins, or you can call the church office for the current class offerings.

Other Activities
We celebrate a social hour after each Sunday service and potluck dinners are held periodically throughout the year.  There are also a wide variety of special events.  Please check our Events page, or the bulletin provided during the Sunday service for specific information.

How Do I Get On The Mailing List?
Our weekly bulletin contains information regarding coming events & church news.  If you wish to receive more information, please add your name to the mailing list located on the information table, or contact us by phone or e-mail.

Joining Unity Church of the Light
Please see our Membership page for information on the requirements for joining our church. Brocures are also available on the information table on Sunday mornings.  New members are approved at the monthly Board of Trustees meeting at which time you become a voting member of the congregation.  Membership is only required for voting, not for participation in the activities of the church.  However, taking this step is a commitment to your spiritual growth through the Unity path, and to supporting the church as you are called to do so.

How Is The Church Administered?
The Minister and the Board of Trustees  make administrative decisions.  The Minister is a voting member of the Board.   The members of the church elect the Board at our annual meeting, which is held in January.

How Is The Church Financed?
The Church’s only sources of income are tithes, gifts, and love offerings.  A small amount of revenue is derived from book sales.  Unity Church of the Light does not receive any financial support from Unity School of Christianity, or from the Association of Unity Churches.

Volunteering
We offer abundant opportunities to grow spiritually through service to others.  These include volunteering within the church as a greeter, bookstore assistant, or Sunday School teachers.  We are also beginning to plan for community service projects involving the entire church.  All Volunteer activities include necessary training and ongoing support.  Time  commitments vary with the position chosen.  But the main qualification is a desire to further your spiritual development by sharing your unique, God-given gifts and talents.
See our   Share the Joy page for more details on the volunteer programs.

What About Spiritual Counseling?
Our Minister is available for spiritual counseling.  An appointment can be made by calling the church office.  All counseling is offered on a love-offering basis.

Weddings, Memorials & Christenings
As a loving, supportive spiritual community, we in Unity are privileged to be with you during these sacred events and our Minister is honored to officiate at these services.  Membership in the church is not required, but advance notice is very helpful. Memorial services can be performed at the funeral home or at a place chosen by the family.  Call the church office for more information.
