Board Retreat
March 10-11, 2006

The Board of Trustees & Rev. Steve have completed a 2 day retreat, ending on March 11th.

The retreat was held at Evensong by the Sea Ecumenical Retreat & Spirituality Center in Harwich Port.

The retreat was a rewarding experience, with a variety of learning & activities designed to enhance spiritual connection between members of the new Board, to learn something about ourselves and our team.

The Evensong Retreat was in a small B&B located in a quiet Harwich neighborhood, just across from Allen Harbor on the south coast.
There was a chapel on the grounds, as well as a labyrinth, which was used for meditation.

On Friday night, after dinner, President Kathy facilitated a warm up exercise, designed to get us better acquainted.
Saturday morning, we gathered in the chapel for prayer & an interesting meditation conducted by Rev. Steve.

At nine am, our favorite Unity facilitator, Charlotte Kells began our day long conference agenda, presenting each of us with the results of the Myers Briggs Type Indicator, a personality inventory we each had filled out on line days earlier. It was extremely interesting as it unfolded, helping us understand ourselves and our behaviors and how these preferences will play out in our roles as members of the Board of Trustees. It became clear how this could help us understand and utilize our strengths in teamwork and also where we would have to be watchful to honor our differences.

After a lovely lunch prepared by our host at Evensong, we tackled the first challenge of the 2006 Board of Trustees, developing our list of task priorities based on the church vision and present needs.
We brainstormed goals and then listed the top seven or eight. We then listed the tasks that needed to be done to make one specific goal tangible and manageable. That gave us a model with which to approach the other goals. We now need to identify who will handle which tasks and when the task is to be accomplished.
We know we have much to do, but this weekend showed us how to proceed.

We ended our retreat at 4:00 pm on Saturday.
